Gewehr 91

Only 1 available!

This particular Gew. 91 is a VC Schilling Suhl manufactured rifle made in 1891. This rifle still has a numbers matching complete bolt, barrel jacket, lower magazine & trigger housing. The rifle does have pitting along the barrel jacket and receiver, especially on the receiver crest. The rear sight is also missing. The rifle is 100% functional and the stock is in good condition.

Please note: the rifle shown in the pictures is very similar to the last one available, but not the exact same (condition and manufacturer are different).
The Gewehr 91 is really nothing more than a Karabiner 88 fitted with a stacking hook underside of the fore-end just aft of the nose-cap. Issued to Artillery / Artillery support units, Train & Luftschiff troops. It was designed so artillerists could stack them keeping them out of the mud. The rifle was adopted for Prussia, Saxony and Wurttemberg on 25 March 1891. They were produced between 1891 - 1896 by private contractors, mainly C.G. Haenel or V.C. Schilling, and the Erfurt Arsenal. Those manufactured or barreled post 1896 were Z modified (deepened rifle grooves), and most were "S" (8mm Spitzer) modified between 1903 - 1905.

This lot of rifles comes out of Ethiopia. Emperor Menelik II bought modern firearms at this time to be able to defend Ethiopia against Empires like Italy and the UK.

Don't forget to check out the Forgotten Weapons video on the Kar. 88, an earlier variation of the Gew. 91, here:

The rifles are antiques since they were manufactured prior to 1898 and do not an FFL or C&R. Please email a photo of a driver's license or govt. ID to the RTI staff at ffl@rtifirearms.com.
